Editorial standards

LLC Answers is an independent publication about forming and running a US limited liability company. We exist because almost every page answering these questions is written by a company that sells the service, and the answer arrives wrapped around an upsell.

How we research

Every fee, deadline and requirement we publish is traced to a primary source: the state's Secretary of State or equivalent filing office, the IRS, or the state tax authority. We link those sources so you can check our work. Where a state publishes a range rather than a fixed number, we say so rather than picking the flattering end, and we date the figure because filing fees change.

What we will not do

We do not give legal or tax advice, and we are not a law firm, a filing service, or a registered agent. Where a question genuinely depends on your circumstances, the honest answer is that it depends, and we say that instead of inventing a rule. We also say plainly when the free or do-it-yourself route is the right one, which is more often than the industry likes to admit.
